We all met at Cycle Gear in Newhall as planned.  Though we headed out a bit late (waiting for a rider who never showed up), we got away fairly close to plan.  Thanks to Mike Duncan (VFR800), Lon & Pam Larsen (ST1300), Jeff Bertrand (ST1300), Mike Sleeman (VFR800), Glenn & Caroline Giardinelly (GSRX1000), and George & Joey Dye (Gold Wing) for joining us (Brian & Kellie on our "new" ST1300) on the ride.

Taking off from Newhall, we headed north on I-5 to 126 west to Fillmore.  Instead of droning away on 126, we bypassed Fillmore by taking Guiberson Road (off Torrey Pines) to Mountain Road (via a brief stint on Bardsdale) to Santa Paula.  We had typical traffic up 150 to Ojai, but the scenery and roads were great, so no worries. Despite signs warning of gravel and dirt in places, Highway 33 was great all the way through to the intersection with Lockwood Canyon were it gets straight and a bit less interesting. So, we stopped Ventucopa (or at least near there) at a quaint place called "The Place" (original).  Despite the less than pleasant upholstery (see pic), it was nice to stretch and grab a cool drink after a couple hours of riding.

It's a short ride from The Place up to Highway 166 and the brief stretch to Cerro Noroeste. From there it was a great ride down to Mil Potrero Highway and into Pine Mountain Club.  It's a Fantastic stretch of road and scenery if you haven't been there. Lunchtime was upon us so we stopped in Pine Mountain Club at The Screaming Squirrel. We heard various stories of the origin of the name (screaming shrew of an ex-wife was the most interesting) and enjoyed the food (standard "American" fare).

Following lunch, we left Pine Mountain and headed up Cuddy Valley Road (saw one adult deer along the way -- which thankfully decided grazing on the side of the road was more interesting than jumping in front of our bikes) to Frazier Mountain Park Road and through Frazier Park itself.  Saw lots of vintage cars, but no Vintage Japanese Motorcycles.  Oh well. We skipped the freeway and took Gorman Post Road to CA 38 (Lancaster Road) east to the Old Ridge Route and Pine Canyon (dirty, but tight twisties), then up Lake Hughes Road (very bumpy at the start) to Castaic where we officially ended the ride.

All told it was about 220 miles of great twisties and scenery.  Thanks again to everyone who showed up.  I posted some additional pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/rydred/20071007GroupRide that hardly do justice to the ride, but should give you a good idea just the same...
